Two shrine maidens kindle Aglwood incense; a fragrant scent sanctifies the site. A dance, "Urayasu no Ma", intensifies the atmosphere of a purification rite. Purification's color is white.

Rieko Kawabe enters with an oversize brush. She paints calligraphic characters in rapud succession. They flow from her brush as if from the heavens, on to huge sheets of "washi" Japanese paper.

The ink forms take on diverse shaps in an energetic flow. The shimmer as if alive, like the water they are composed of.

Artistic tension builds in the sound of a drum and points of silence. The calligraphy characters that emerge on the long sheets of "washi" paper whistle like the tones of a sacred incantation.
